Alberto Salazar is an American former distance runner who served as the head coach of the Nike Oregon Project, an elite group of runners in the Nike sponsored professional running circuit. The Oregon Project was one of the dominant teams in road racing in the United States during the early 2010s, winning numerous domestic and international marathons, often in record times. It was led by members of Nike's Oregon-based development team which included high school athletes, college runners, and professional runners who were sponsored by Nike. Salazar was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala and raised in Texas.
